Dad Took the Child to the Doctors
This vet visit really scared me because I couldn’t be there to ask all of the questions and hear exactly what the doctor said. My dog had been coughing very hard and very frequently for 48 hours before I took her in. After getting scans, the doctor found that her heart was enlarged and suspected pulmonary hypertension which can cause a long list of complications and lower quality of life meaning I might have to be without her soon. The doctor recommended a specialist and prescribed a medication. This was where I really got worried because of how expensive it would be. I called and scheduled an appointment with the specialist and was given a cost estimate of $700. At this point, I hadn’t been working very much and so most days my bank account was empty. At some point, my card had declined for the pet insurance, and I decided to call and cancel. While on the phone with her, she told me about pre-authorization. She said that. If I had sent it in ahead of time, I would know if there was anything insurance could do to help me with the cost. I decided not to cancel and just downgraded my coverage. I sent the pre-authorization in and waited.
